Control Systems Engineer – PCS Standardization and Transition Support, Patapsco WWTP, Baltimore, MD
Chris DiDio provides PCS support to the City of Baltimore Control Systems Engineer at the Patapsco WWTP as the facility is undergoing major renovation, and upgrades for Enhanced Nutrient Removal and support Facilities, including a new plant-wide ABB Distribute Control System. Responsibilities include standardizing programming efforts for logic and graphics development, attending key PCS meetings, coordinating PCS training, and providing assistance in resolving PCS-related issues. The work involves attendance and oversite of PCS hardware and software factory testing, contribution to responses to RFIs, and occasional troubleshooting of field issues.
Control Systems Engineering Consultant – DC Water, Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant
Chris DiDio currently serves as a control systems engineering consultant for PCS-related work associated with multiple projects at the Blue Plains facility. Responsibilities include many facets of process control and instrumentation work, including design review, standardization, submittal review, RFI response, RFP development, proposal review, troubleshooting and related tasks. Mr. DiDio leads regular meetings with the Owner’s and Contractor’s I&C managers and staff to coordinate I&C work, investigates and troubleshoots PCS issues, provides solutions, and issues documentation.
Control Systems Engineer – I&C Design for Clarksburg Elevated Water Storage Tank, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission
Designed instrumentation and controls for a new elevated drinking water storage tank in Clarksburg, MD. Controls included altitude valve controls integrated to tank level and overflow switch, and miscellaneous auxiliary systems. Instrumentation included radar and hydrostatic pressure type level sensors, chlorine residual analyzer, tank overflow switch, flood switch, and door access switches.
Control Systems Engineer – Bryant Street Pumping Station Spillage Header Improvements for DC Water, Washington DC
Chris DiDio was specifically requested by the Owner to join the design team to resolve open issues and finalize the design of a complex system of spillage header pressure control valves. Responsibilities included writing the spillage header control description, coordinating process control and valve equipment specifications, reviewing and improving P&IDs, coordinating and verifying the design with instrument and valve equipment suppliers. Defined and specified four key operating functions of the pressure control valves, and coordinated with five separate automatic modes of operation.
Project Manager – PLC/HMI Upgrades at Broadwater Water Reclamation Facility, Churchton, MD
Chris DiDio served as the PCS Project Manager in the provision of miscellaneous controls upgrades and improvements to support enhanced nutrient removal addition to an existing 1 MGD wastewater treatment plant. Projected included programming of multiple PLC-5 and MicroLogix PLCs as well as additions and modifications of an RSView HMI to incorporate new control strategies. New strategies included custom closed loop PID control of aeration blowers to maintain dissolved oxygen levels in the aeration tanks as well as PID level control of multiple variable speed pumps to maintain the wet well level of a critical intermediate pump station. Also developed training materials for operator training at project completion.
Project Manager – Control System Upgrade at Oaks Landfill, Laytonsville, MD
CWD Consulting was contracted to provide all services associated with upgrading an existing SLC controller and I/O, with a new CompactLogix controller, including conversion of SLC500 logic code to RSLogix5000 code, as well as conversion of existing OIT graphics to new PanelView Plus OIT graphics. Mr. DiDio coordinated the project, directing the physical equipment replacement, and overseeing the programming, commissioning and O&M documentation. The project included miscellaneous upgrades to related PCS elements including a new web-based alarm RACO cellular autodialer with antenna and accessories, Stratix Ethernet switch, tank level sensor, control power supply, relays, and pilot light replacement.
